Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) Train a child in the way he should
go and when he is old, he will not turn from it.
Our children are the future of our church. We love the children who are
part of our congregation and strive to offer a variety of ways for them to
learn about God and glorify his name.
Children ages six and older are encouraged to be a part of our Acolyte
Program, where they are trained how to light and extinguish the candles on
the altar during Sunday morning worship services. This is a great
opportunity for children to have an active part in our worship service.
Children in Pre-K through 2nd Grade are invited to join the Children’s
Church Worship Service. Each Sunday morning during the worship service,
the pastor will dismiss the children to go to Children’s Church. There
they will participate in a time of worship designed especially for them.
If you are interested in helping with this important ministry one Sunday
per quarter, please contact the church office for more information.
Each Summer we have a week long Vacation Bible School, designed to teach
our kids about God and get them excited to share what they have learned.
In 2008, our theme was “Discovering the miraculous power of Jesus” through
“Power Lab.” All aspects of the week had a science theme. The children and
all of the adult volunteers had a wonderful time and are already looking
forward to next year’s VBS program. You can view pictures taken during
that week in our gallery.
The UM Men meet every 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. All Men of ORT are invited to attend, hope to see you at the next meeting. All male members over the age of 13 years are members of UMM. For more information see the President, Don Wilks or contact the church office.
United Methodist Women
Our Purpose: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Basically we are a group of women who largely focus on missions, both locally and globally. It is not necessary to be a Methodist to be a member, just a woman who wants to look beyond her immediate self and reach out to others. At the same time, we enjoy the friendships that develop and manage to incorporate some fun into our gatherings.
We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Gathering Place which is located in Building "O" on our church property. This applies to 10 months of the year. In November and December our schedule changes due to holidays. We also sponsor ten out to lunch and two out to breakfast events each year strictly for socialization. These are Dutch treat activities and open to everyone.
United Methodist Women is a world wide organization, and as such we do pledge a certain amount of money annually to be sent to our headquarters for undesignated giving to mission fields that are selected by the General Board of Global Ministries. We also give locally to support groups who provide services for women, youth and children. Recently we have made donations to United Methodist Youth Fellowship for summer camp, boy and girl scout troops, Teen Challenge, New Horizon Family Center and to Old River Terrace Child Care Center.
We do our share of cooking throughout the year! Twice a year we have luncheons that are fund raising events. In March we have a soup luncheon, and in November we have a turkey dinner. It has been our practice to provide one meal during our Vacation Bible School. We also coordinate bake sales during the year to benefit our church.
This is just a small glimpse of UMW. Join us and discover what else is going on!
We at Old River Terrace United Methodist Church want
to make church available to everyone in this community. We would like to
introduce you to our Bus Ministry.
The bus will pick you up for Sunday School and return you to your home
after the Worship Service. We hope the entire family will want to
participate, but we understand if not everyone will be able to. If only
the children will be able to attend Sunday School and Worship, please
choose Child Pick-up Request from the top menu and just sign
the permission form provided to send with your child.
We at ORT would like to make this service a part of your life. Please
call or email if you are interested in our bus service. Thank you, and
God bless.
Please Note: All pick-up requests received after 3 pm
on Thursday will not be confirmed until the following Monday.

Boy Scout troop 524 is chartered by ORT and was
started in December of 2001 by former Scoutmaster David Kuykendall and
other leaders. The troop was started with a graduating group of Webelos
Cub Scouts. In 2005, Ron Spates took over the duties of the Scoutmaster
of the Troop. Our Scouts currently range in age from 17 to 11 years old
with an average age of 14. We currently have several Scouts close to
reaching the rank of Eagle Scout, the pinnacle of Scouting.
Troop 524 is very active. We camp one weekend each month, usually on the
3rd or 4th weekend. We are also involved in several service and fund
raising projects. Some service projects help the cub scouts, some help
the church, and some help the community. Our Troop meets in the Scout
Hut at ORTUMC on Sundays at 6:30pm. Young men interested in becoming a
new Scout, current Scouts looking for a new experience, and guests are
always welcome.
Boy Scouts is a boy run organization. Adults are present to guide,
train, control, and protect. We believe that there is no other way
parents can obtain for their boy the advantages in skills, leadership,
discipline, and quality experience gained by several years in a scout
troop.
