Text Box: time back, someone suggested a new definition of insanity which went like this: insanity is to continue doing the same things while expecting different results. If that’s true, there are a whole lot of us in the church today who are borderline ‘insaniacs.’ (I made that word up myself! Insaniacs have that privilege, you know!)
We keep doing ministry the same way offering the same programs, maintaining the same routine, practicing the same superficial devotions, and then we wonder why there isn’t a more powerful move of the Holy Spirit in our midst! Why aren’t we reaching more people with the life-transforming message of Jesus? Where are the miracles of conversion and healing? We think to ourselves, “These must be the last days. People are so hard-hearted, stiff-necked, and stubborn. The mystery of iniquity has raised its ugly head. Certainly, the fault doesn’t lie with us!”
Text Box: I confess…I’ve overstated the case for emphasis’ sake. Some areas of ministry need to continue just as they are. Not everything we do, nor everyone who’s involved is ready for the Rusk-heap! (I just coined another new word…I’m getting good at this!) At the same time, I believe ORT is ripe…yes, even desperately ripe, for some different results in 2008 as compared with recent years. You just whispered an ‘Amen,’ didn’t you? (We insaniacs hear things, too!)
Different results warrant different methods. So, we’ve put together a new team, the OTM Team of ORT! When people need cash, they look for an ATM machine, which they should be able to find without too much trouble because those ATM’s are strategically placed all around. Well, when people need Jesus, and when they need heaven’s currency, the OTM Team needs to be strategically placed throughout Channelview and beyond to help bring the glory down! (That’s the idea anyway. Doesn’t that sound fantabulous…O no, I did it again…another Text Box: new word!)
In this edition of “Terrace Talk,” you will find the monthly schedule for ORT’s committees. Notice, Monday evenings are open. That’s intentional. We hope to do some strategic placing of OTM teams, especially (but not limited to) Monday nights!
The OTM team will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 PM, to consider a smorgasbord of Outreach and Mission’ entrees. Don’t be surprised if there’s some tasty ‘house-to-house’ in the mix! What do the experts know! If it was good enough for Paul, it should be good enough for us! Keep the team in your prayers, and be on the lookout for an exciting 2008 game plan!
Your Friendly Insaniac, Clay

“You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you, but have

taught you publicly and from house to house.” –Acts 20:20

House to house?  That doesn’t work anymore, does it?  At least, that’s the impression I now get from the “experts.”  We live in different times, and going from door to door is intrusive and ineffective.  What about some of those “other groups” (no need to name the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witnesses…oops)?  Don’t they know that going ‘house to house’ is history?  Can I help it if they want to operate with archaic outdated methods?  I doubt they would listen to me anyway!  I can’t help but wonder though…if door-to-door is out, what’s in?  E-mail-to-Email?  Web-to-Web?  My Space-to-My Space?  Cell-to-Cell?  Text-to-Text?  Chit-to-Chat?

That’s the big issue on my heart these days.  Show us, Lord, how we can reach people with the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ.  It’s the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes first for the Jew first, and also for the Gentile! (See Romans 1:16)  Some
